Our Call to Action

There is so much happening right now – never have we created more impact together. We are actively seeking volunteers to help on our Build, Repair, Kitchen Salvage, and ReStore programs.

The Build, Repair and Kitchen Salvage provide hands on opportunities to grow or develop skills in repair and construction, and volunteer support is absolutely vital to their success.

At the ReStore our most significant need at this time is in our cash area and driver support. Our cashiers have a regularly scheduled shift and ensure smooth operations at the ReStore. Drivers’ assistants can schedule themselves with a lot of flexibility as to days and availability but a full morning or afternoon commitment is needed each shift

VON Volunteer Opportunities and Volunteer Meals on Wheels Drivers

“Anyone who has delivered meals or received meals knows that our delivery is about more than the meal,” continued Brush. “Meals on Wheels also provides a safety check and a friendly smile that may serve as a lifeline to isolated seniors.”

The volunteers are often the only person the client may see all day.

Brush said volunteers must be able to commit to a minimum of two hours a month, although ideally, two hours a week is best for the program.

FIRST Robotics – Event Volunteers

Dear STEM Enthusiasts,
Would you like to inspire and be inspired by youth participating in a program designed to get them excited
about science, technology, engineering, and math? FIRST Robotics Competition is a program in which
teams of students design, build and program robots to complete tasks on a themed playing field and
develop innovative solutions to real-world problems or community impact with STEM education. This
prepares them for tournaments at which teams demonstrate their robots and present their solutions or
impact to panels of judges.
That is where you come in! FIRST Robotics Canada is seeking volunteers in many roles to make these
events a reality for all our amazing, hard-working students. One of many roles is a judge, judges evaluate
team presentations and deliberate to determine award winners at one of these exciting tournaments, at
which we celebrate the learning and accomplishments of participating teams. There is a small amount of
preparation involved and no technical background or experience with our programs is required because
we are seeking judges to evaluate not only robot design and robot performance, but also the research,
presentation and teamwork skills.
If you would like to help make an event like this possible by volunteering as a judge or other important
role, please see below for the time commitment and instructions about how to apply.

1. Review the role descriptions and complete list of available events at the following links:
FIRST Robotics Competition (for students in Grades 9 – 12)
2022-23 Event Listing – more events in Ontario

2. Create a new (or log in to your existing) user account at www.firstinspires.org, select “Volunteer
Registration” from your dashboard and apply for the role of judge (or other role) at the FIRST Robotics
Competition event of your choice. Please click here for an instructional video to help guide you through
the process.

3. Complete the Youth Protection (YPP) screening process, which will be initiated once you have applied
for an event. Your “clearance” remains valid for 48 months so judges who were screened previously
need only accept the updated terms and conditions for YPP. Please click here for a brief instructional
video about the screening process.

4. Once you have completed the YPP screening process, the Volunteer Coordinator will assign you to
your preferred role and you can complete the Data Protection & Privacy certification and any other
required training (accessible through your Dashboard), which must be completed before your event.

Volunteer with Ensemble

Ensemble is a parent-directed resource for families caring for a child with a disability that provides support from birth through adulthood. The name, Ensemble, is French for “together” and was chosen for the strength and resiliency found in the connections built between families and within the community.

Ensemble inspires possibilities for children by promoting family leadership so that families thrive and become active members in the community.

Ensemble was founded in 2000 by two moms whose lives have been affected by their children’s diagnosis of a disability. These moms understood the importance of connecting to others as the first step in helping families cope with the challenges of raising a child with a disability.

We meet ONCE a month via telephone or Zoom at 7pm for approximately 1 hour. By joining our committee, you will be able to openly share experiences and make suggestions. These opinions will provide valuable family perspectives everyone will benefit from.

Please consider making your voice heard.

Volunteers are the backbone of the program, helping with the many tasks which may include side walking, leading, farm related chores, cleaning, painting and fundraising. All prospective volunteers must have a current police clearance with a vulnerable sector screening. You will be asked to commit fully to the weekly therapeutic riding sessions as a horse leader or a side walker. Sessions are usually 11 or 12 weeks in length. Other responsibilities may include farm maintenance, gardening, etc. as needed. All Volunteers are trained before being allowed to handle horses or assist with students during riding lessons. In addition to this we provide delivery to those who consider themselves to be at high risk for COVID19 infection.
General Overview of Volunteer Activities:

  • Volunteers will be assigned to one person on need; screened and assigned by ASPIRE.
  • The client will provide a grocery list up to a maximum of 80 dollars to which brand names and preferences are given.
  • At pre-arranged times, volunteers will shop at a grocery store in the area and then provide contactless delivery to the client’s place of residence. Grocery deliveries are limited to once a week at maximum.
  • Following drop-off, the client is to e-transfer the whole cost of groceries to the volunteer. Volunteers will be reimbursed by ASPIRE if they do not receive payment within a reasonable window after delivery.

Currently, the Grocery Delivery Initiative is providing service in Windsor, ON.
We seek to help those who have great difficulty getting groceries for themselves on a day to day basis. This may include, but is not limited, to: Elderly, Immunocompromised, Respiratory Disease suffers (Chronic Bronchitis or Emphysema), Heart Failure patients. We will also be assisting those considered most susceptible in contracting or suffering the most deleterious effects of COVID-19.
